Infrequently Asked Questions
I've heard that the Centre is not licensed, why not?
The Salvation Army encourages an alcohol free lifestyle as a way of enhancing the well-being of individuals, families and communities. It also bears witness to the harm alcohol causes and offers its services to support people negatively impacted by alcohol use.
What was in the park before Geelong Conference Centre?
The site of Geelong Conference Centre was formerly the Corio Oval and the home ground of the Geelong Football Club before it moved to Kardinia Park. Corio oval was home to the Cats in the early VFL years from 1897 to 1941 and then taken over by the Army (defence) for military training during World War II.
Who designed the Centre?
Renowned architects McGlashan Everist who have conceived some of Geelong’s most iconic features and spaces. The brief was to create an educational bush retreat in an urban setting, with spaces for teaching, study, intellectual exchange, recreation and residence.
Do I have to be part of a conference to stay there?
Not at all. While conferences are our main business, more often than not our accommodation is open to those visiting the region, travelling for work or attending events. Refer to our accommodation page to book online.
Is the Centre in the Botanic Gardens?
Not in the Botanic Gardens but very close to it. We’re within Eastern Park, next door to the East Geelong Golf Club and the flying fox colony. The Botanic Gardens entrance is a short walk away and the whole precinct is easy to explore on foot. For more tips on that you may like to visit https://walkingmaps.com.au/walk/427

The service and food is exceptional (you can always win our hearts over with food!). GCC is our first choice and we always have such nice things to say.

Beautiful location and very quiet surrounds. Ideal conference facility to control large group of delegates with a no alcohol policy. Place is managed by the Salvos and they do a fantastic job.
